Considering the reading you have completed so far in Arthur Miller's The Crucible, crying witch seems to be an ever growing popularity in Salem. Do you feel the girls are truly possessed by the so-called "witches" of Salem; if not what do you think is happening? Also, what are your thoughts on Tituba's role in this play? Do you feel her role is pertinent to the overall theme in the play? How?
Remember... you're on trial; choose your words carefully. Give in and comply to the thoughts of your other classmates, or stand strong and true to your own beliefs! Will you be the first "witch" hanged?
The girls are making a ruckus over nothing, I tell you. I think Abigail's making it more than what it is because she likes John Proctor, and she's mad at his wife. The other girls are going along with it because they are just girls. Tituba's role is very important--she was the one doing voodoo in the woods for them, and she's the one who gave in first because she didn't want to die. That contributes to the overall theme, for sure. I might be hanged for it, but I'm not gonna lie and say something that isn't true: those girls aren't witched; they're just being crazy girls.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Abby. Those girls are liars. They just love the attention, and are following whatever Abigail does. It's crazy how out of control the whole thing has gotten. As for Tituba, I can't exactly make up my mind. She is important to move the story along, because if it wasn't for her "confession" and the whole dancing in the forest event, a lot of the play probably couldn't have happened. However, she barely even has any parts after the beginning.
ReplyDeleteGo ahead, hang me if you must!
I do not think the girls are actually possessed by witches. Like the other ladies comments above, those "crying girls" are just insane and think that they can control someone's life by making up a story that everyone knows will get the person in trouble!
ReplyDeleteI do not believe the girls are being possessed by the witches; rather, the girls are coerced into crying because the girls want to stay friends. The people with cry "witchery" don't want to make anyone mad or be an enemy of the group. Tituba is a very important role in the story and plays a pertinent role to the story.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the rest of my classmates. I think that the girls are liars and they are just being girls. They want to be part of a group and will do anything to feel accepted. I do not think the girls are possessed by witches at all. i think they are being rebellious teens who simply want the attention of everyone in the town. These girls think that if they are manipulative and deceitful they will get what they want and this is indeed not the case.
ReplyDeleteTHE GIRLS ARE WITCHES!!! BURN THEM!!!!
ReplyDeleteI think that the Crucible is an interesting commentary on how rumors spread and how the words we use can make a dramatic impact on the culture we live in.
ReplyDeleteThe Crubcible is a great example of how rumors influence the minds of individuals, and cause choas.
